This guide is by no means exhaustive and other factors may be in play. Use extreme caution when dealing with aggression or you WILL be injured.

Danger signs of the family pet towards family members
- Acts territorial around family members
- Mounting behavior of children or other pets
- Marking (urinating) people, children, beds, clothing
- Destructive behavior of clothing or beds
- Possessive of family members
- Growls at others while being held or carried
- Toy guarding
- Exit guarding
- Food or water bowl guarding
- Displaying elevation dominance
- Covering (lying on with paw or body) a child or baby
- Possessive of couches or beds
- Irritable behavior when sleeping
- Growls or snaps when awoken
- Become irritable when being hugged or held
- Hides under tables or objects
- Adult dogs mouthing family members
- Snarling, raising lip, snapping, nipping or biting are all unacceptable
The following play behaviors are potential signs of a problem
- Chases every bicycle, roller blade or runner they see
- Excessive excitement while kids are swimming, playing or running
- Excessively chases or hunts critters
- Out of control when visitors come to front (or back) door
Danger signs of the family pet towards other animals
- Growls at other dogs or animals
- Lunges or jumps at other animals
- Herds other animals or family members
- Non-responsive to handler (owner) control attempts
Warning
- Aggression involving dominance or pack drive can be life threatening.
- Becomes unpredictable when in vicinity of other animals (or people)
- ANY TIME A DOGS TEETH BREAK SKIN, THIS IS A BITE!
- Aggressive behavior that is untreated escalates into more serious issues
